IS YOUR DATA SAFE? --- Computer viruses and other destructive programs such as "worms" and "trojan horses" can destroy data on your computer's hard drive. Always keep several backups of important data...
  • use your network home directory (H:\ drive) - the network drives are protected against virus infection
  • copy to several diskettes - don't just rely on that one diskette you've been using since 1992
  • make occasional printouts of works in progress - if you had to in an emergency, you could re-create the document

PASSWORDS ARE IMPORTANT --- The information in your AU Email account or EagleNet network home directory (H:\ drive) is only a password away from snooping eyes. Follow these guidelines...
  • choose a password that is easy to remember, but not easy to guess
  • change the password from your ID number to something more secret - the ID number password is only designed to get you started, not to be a permanent password.
  • don't share you password with your friends - they have their own accounts, they don't need access to yours

If you want help changing your passwords, stop in at 100 Patterson, and a HelpDesk staff member will assist you. Remember, if you change your password, but then forget it and need your account reset, a reset fee will be charged.
